Last week when Mr A was away for work I had the opportunity to check out La Fiesta Cafecito with a few friends. La Feista is a family owned and operated Salvadorian/Latin American restaurant in St. Vital.
The restaurant is tiny, I would absolutely recommend a reservation, but it was buzzing on a Saturday night. The decor is really eclectic and they have their own entertainment, a gentleman dressed in a traditional Salvadorian outfit who serenades diners throughout the evening.
We decided to get the “Perfect Dinner for 3,” and it came with several courses and even a margarita to drink! We got a lot of food and it was perfect for a newbie to the restaurant because you get to try a wide variety of menu items.
Corn Tamal – Absolutely amazing. I’ve never had a tamal before, I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long.
Soup or Salad – I got the Spicy Chicken Soup, and it was a good thing I had the margarita because it was spicy! Also, I’m a wimp when it comes to spice.
Quesadilla + Salvadorian Enchilada – The enchiladas were probably one of my favourite items. The brown bean sauce was the consistency of melted chocolate and tasted amazing, like nothing I’ve ever eaten before.
Burrito + Papusa – Papusas are little pockets made of cornmeal and have different fillings. We had bean and cheese.
Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was great. I hope to come back soon to try their poderoso (large burritos), and to eat some more enchiladas!!
