We made it to the end of another year! I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday season – I know mine was full of food and Italian playing cards! It was nice to go MIA from the blog for a while and catch up with family and friends.
Today I wanted to take a little bit of time to reflect on 2016 and also set some goals/intentions/etc for 2017. I’ll be sharing in the fun with Ange and Carmy and hopefully I’ll check in with them quarterly this year as well.
2016 was a busy year and so many amazing things happened: I trained for and ran my first half marathon and 10k, I celebrated a champagne birthday, I traveled to the most Eastern part of Canada and can now say I’ve visited all the provinces, I took the blog to the next level with some awesome partnerships, we bought a house (!!) and we hosted family and friends for Christmas.
It honestly feels like it was just yesterday that I ran my first training run on the treadmill at GoodLife Fitness. In reality that was 12 months and a lot of miles and meals ago.
As I gear up for a new year I like to set intentions or goals to help move me in the right direction. I find it especially helpful when coming back from some time off. With the help of my type A personality I’ll be trying to hold myself accountable for some new habits while checking in here with how I’m making out with my big 5 intentions for the year.
1. Get better at ‘home owning/making.’
As I’ve mentioned before, and will probably mention again, writing my thesis has really hindered me from being able to properly (by my own standards) be a homeowner. This doesn’t just include starting a cleaning schedule and keeping up with my massive laundry pile but also learning how to take care of our apple trees and rhubarb plants (and dealing with the fruit when it’s ready). We also want to plant our first garden, finish furnishing our home, and host many get-together’s with friends.
2. Spend more time with family and friends.
A perfect segway. In 2017 I want to spend more time with family and friends. My time has been limited in the last half of 2016 and spending time with friends and family has really gone by the way side. While I don’t have any solid plans for how this will take shape I do hope we can host more get-togethers and plan more activities together.
3. Get back into a fitness routine.
Since we got back from our East Coast Adventure my physical activity level has dwindled down to none. I’ve been spending every single minute possible trying to finish my thesis and I couldn’t spare a moment to walk to the mail box on some days let alone fit in a workout or yoga class. In 2017 I would like to first and foremost get back into a fitness routine, but also train for and run another half marathon while shaving some time off my PR.
I’ve been bitten by the travel bug since ever we’ve gotten back from our trip. We have some small trips lined up for 2017 but it would be wonderful if we can plan out a big trip for later in 2017 or have something lined up for 2018. This intention really depends on me finding work when I’m finally done school, which leads me to…
5. Find work I love.
Perhaps the most important of all 5 intentions/goals. Now that I’ll be transitioning out of grad school and into the real world I’ll be looking for work that really resonates with me but also pays the bills! I’ve been applying for some in the last month or so, but 2017 will bring a whole new set of job-searching experiences.
Let’s chat! – What are you looking forward to accomplishing in the new year? Do you set 2017 goals or intentions?
